freestyle changelog
- when arm enters water: (1) arms stretch forward and fingers reach ahead to catch water from as far in front as possible (2) fingers catch water and bring it near by bending elbow upwards (3) when a cushion of water is caught, entire shoulder blade is swung back while the opposite arm reaches in front, twisting upper torso and using shoulder to push water back (4) forearm continues to push back until hand reaches water surface.
- sidestroke - head ought rest on shoulder more and arm should stretch further in front and keep body straight to steer. breathing will then naturally be on the side.
- kicks achieved by movement of thighs then followed up by the calfs with slight bend in the knees. increasing kick amplitude should then start from the thighs.
on another note for breaststroke: (1) during glide, stretch arms as far forward as possible, then when palms split, stretch arms further forward and use arms to catch water in front and cup them back, in a momentum that feels as if one is pulling onself through and out of a tube. (2) head should come out of the water only when the arms pull the body through the water surface, not by intentionally bending the neck to get the head out earlier. (3) dive back into the water, make body streamline, and then, kick (3) kick with more upper thighs and follow through with calves. kick legs slightly downloads to maintain body level and keep body paralell to the ground. glide nearer surface of water for easier pull.
